The Child Mind Institute offers 2nd year MSW graduate students a clinical social work internship in the Anxiety Disorders Center (ADC). The Anxiety Disorders Center specializes in treating children, teens and young adults with a variety of anxiety disorders including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias, and selective mutism (SM). The program offers innovative, unique treatments in both standard outpatient and intensive outpatient modalities. Social work interns will receive specialized training in evidenced-based treatment for anxiety disorders including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Parent Child Interaction Therapy adapted for Selective Mutism (PCIT-SM). Social work interns will carry their own case load of individual clients and will also have opportunities to co-lead groups. Social work interns may also have opportunities to be involved in individual and group intensive treatment programs as part of our social anxiety, OCD and selective mutism programs. Social work interns may also provide school and home-based interventions, when clinically indicated.
As a component of the training experience, social work interns will participate in a variety of learning experiences at the Child Mind Institute. Specifically, social work interns will attend didactics, clinical meetings with center staff, and attend lectures through our Visiting Professor Series, consisting of renowned experts in mental health. Social work interns will also receive weekly individual and group supervision.
